Diffusing your on camera flash can help keep your photographs from having that washed out look. This article will show you how to create one.

Steps

  1. 1
Take a good look at the size of your pop up flash. How wide is it? Will the film canister actually fit on it.
    1. Take the film canister and hold it near the popped up flash. Does it look like it will work.
    2. 3
Start cutting out a rectangular hole into the side of the canister.
    3. 4
As you advance, check out your progress and see if the hole in the canister is large enough.
    4. 5
If necessary, cut it from ‘stem to stern’. The cap on the end will help maintain its solidity.
    5. 6
      Finished.

      Tips

      • This was cut out for a Nikon D70, which is really too wide of a flash to be able to use this type effectively.

      Things You’ll Need

      • Translucent film canister
      • Sharp cutting knife
